Maintaining and looking after your skin can be one of the most challenging parts of your beauty regime. From hormones to the elements to allergies, there are many things that can cause your skin to go from clear and smooth to blemish-y and textured. But there are some things you can do to help it along, and some skin care products, in particular, that can keep your skin healthy and (hopefully) clear.
Master Your Skin Routine
If you want your skin to be clear and healthy, you need to take care of it well. Establish a skincare routine that focuses on cleaning and nourishing your skin. Here’s a few to get you started.
Cleansing is something you should be doing every day. And we mean it. Every. Day. Whether you prefer micellar cleansing water, or a cleansing balm to clean your face, doing this every day is the first step to clear skin. It washes away the dirt and oil that builds up, along with any nasty bacteria that could land on your face. Without this crucial step, you could trap germs into your skin as you put more products such as your moisturiser on your face.
Exfoliate 1-2 Times a Week
Our skin is constantly producing new skin cells, which means that dead skin cells can remain in our pores and skin. To stop these clogging up our pores and causing spots and blemishes to develop, exfoliate once or twice a week. This can be in the form of a physical exfoliation with a face scrub, or a chemical exfoliation using a chemical peel.
Face Mask Once a Week
Face masks are usually regarded as part of a pamper day or at sleepovers with your gal pals. But these treatments are actually a great way to either give your skin an extra boost or a deep clean. Clay masks are great for extracting excess oils and impurities from your skin, while hydration masks can deliver a deep hydration treatment to soothe dry skin.
Wash Your Pillows and Towels
It’s not just about what you put on your face, but where you put your face too. Germs and bacteria can live on your pillowcases and towels and clog up your pores if not washed regularly. We recommend washing your towels and pillowcases once a week to get rid of any germs that can cause havoc with your skin.
Did you know that your skin is an organ? That’s why it’s so important to keep hydrated! Drinking enough water means that your skin can maintain elasticity and carry on producing new skin cells. Aim for 2 litres of water per day to keep your skin plump and bouncy.
Your diet has more of an impact on your skin than you think. Fatty foods such as dairy, foods high in saturated fats and sugar can cause your skin to break out or have a reaction. This isn’t to say you can’t ever have these foods, but do try to limit your intake of them.
