14th December – the day when the final results were announced, or you can say the 69th Miss World Pageant was held. By the time, you would have come to know the new miss world – Miss Toni-Ann Singh. Yes! Miss Jamaica won the 69th beauty pageant of Miss World.

This is the first time in history that all the beauty pageant has been won over by the black women and that includes, Miss USA, Miss Teen USA, Miss America, Miss Universe, and Miss World.

Miss World Toni-Ann Singh

Toni-Ann Singh is a 23-year-old student who is planning to study medicine and become a doctor. She was born in St. Thomas, Jamaica, and later they immigrated to the United States, and she attended Florida State University.

She won the Miss World leaving behind 111 contestants. In November 2019, she came to London for the pre-pageant activities for miss world and was placed in the top 40 of the Top Model competition and won the talent competition. Finals were held on the 14th of December at ExCel London, where she won the miss world pageant. The two runner ups were, Ophély Mézino of France and Suman Rao of India.

The one where Toni-Ann Shing gave the vocal performance of Whitney Houston’s ‘I Have Nothing’, the performance was so mesmerizing that it won the hearts of judges and even they asked if she got the chance in singing career, will she go for it? She replied, “If the door is open. I’ll walk through it.”

The most adorable moment was the one where Nyekachi Douglas – Miss Nigeria jumped up and down with the joy when the winner was announced. It was clear with her expressions that she is happy for her. The moment has already been transformed into GIF!

The most emotional and heart-touching moment was the crowning ceremony. The expression of Toni-Ann Singh was pure and gratifying.

She celebrated her win on twitter by tweeting a meaningful message for every girl out there. Her tweet had the caption – “To that little girl in St. Thomas, Jamaica and all the girls around the world – please believe in yourself. Please know that you are worthy and capable of achieving your dreams. This crown is not mine but yours. You have a PURPOSE.”

Upon asking what are the plans for the new miss world, she responded, “So honored and grateful for this opportunity but most of all I’m thinking about the work that needs to be done and that I have the platform and the means to do it, I’m ready to get out there and work. I’m excited!”

Even the tourism minister of Jamaica, Edmund Bartlett, congratulated her and said her win would bring a boost in the tourism industry too. He said, “Every time Jamaica makes a big impression on the world stage, it brings value to our destination. This is because it makes more people inquire about the destination and want to come to the island.”

She is a perfect example of a role model. The way she celebrated her win defines the personality as soft-hearted and a woman with a passion for being a change.
